Viorel Canja, UiPath: We would like Iași to become one of our largest development centers

Time is ticking and pretty soon we will all gather for the 4th edition of DevExperience, The Absolutely Normal International IT Conference in Iași.
One of the many surprises of this edition is the fact that you will see... unicorns. Well, not any kind of unicorns, but the very first Romanian Unicorn, so be ready to meet the amazing team from UiPath! One of its members is Viorel Canja, SVP Engineering Security, who answered our questions for this very nice blog interview!

DevExperience: It is a great honor for us, to have UiPath, the first Romanian unicorn, as Diamond Partner at DevExperience. Everyone wants to know why you joined DevExperience, an international conference in Iași, given that you only have offices in Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca. So it is our duty to ask you this question here too: why did you join DevExperience?

Viorel Canja: UiPath is planning to open offices in all major development centers in Romania. We are also expanding internationally, so it makes sense for us to be present at important dev events.

DevExperience: How do you see the IT industry in Iași, compared to Bucharest or Cluj-Napoca?

Viorel Canja: Iași is an important IT center in Romania and developers here are equally skilled to those in Bucharest and Cluj. Judging by the passion we've seen from developers we met here, we think they could contribute greatly to our journey.

DevExperience: Tell us a little more about opening an office in Iași. What are your expansion plans?

Viorel Canja: We are in the process of opening our office here. We do not have a limit on how many people we will hire and we would like Iași to become one of our largest development centers.
Our colleagues from Iași will join those in other cities in Romania, the US and India in working on challenging problems related to AI in the fastest growing industry, Robotic Process Automation (RPA). We are planning to have an office in a prime location.

DevExperience: What kind of people are you looking to hire for the new office in Iași? Who should apply and why should they choose you?

Viorel Canja: We are looking to hire talented developers that want to join us on our journey. We offer the chance to be a part of one of the fastest growing enterprise companies in history and work on exciting projects.

DevExperience: Many people know about UiPath for being the first Romanian unicorn. But not all of them know exactly what is it that you do. So let's solve the mystery for them and shortly explain what UiPath does.

Viorel Canja: UiPath has built the best-in-its-class enterprise Robotic Process Automation (RPA) platform. RPA is the fast-growing technology that employs software bots to take over repetitive, tedious, rules-based business tasks that were so far done by employees. For many people in the work field today, administration processes (e.g. entering orders, allocating invoices to accounts) are diminishing productivity and carving out from the time spent in strategic tasks. Organizations utilize RPA to take care of a wide range of tasks – from simple document workflows to complex business processes.

Among a multitude of applications, the robotic workforce is able to: read and process structured and unstructured data, extract content from multiple data formats and process it further (ex: transferring data from PDFs received as email attachments to ERP programs), sort and process emails (including attachments), sort, classify and process news and information of all types, manage authentication data, prepare automated billing and settlements, manage complaints more efficiently, log process data, consolidate and supply them for analysis.

DevExperience: What is your message for the local IT community in Iași?
