Dan Aluas, Cegeka: We believe in the power of communities

A new shiny day, a new interview with one of our amazing Diamond Partners. Today we would like you to meet Dan Aluas, Manager of the Software Development Division for the Iasi office at Cegeka Romania. We’ve asked Dan a few questions about Cegeka’s activities, principles and plans, so you’d better read his answers and enjoy a very nice interview about the people in IT!

DevExperience: Why did you join DevExperience as Diamond Partner again?

Dan Aluas: DevExperience is one of the main IT events in the market that proves its added value to the community. We at Cegeka, as an IT company, believe in the power of communities, so we are always ready to offer our support and contribute to the events that are dedicated to helping these communities develop.

DevExperience: What do you think that IT companies must do to help the local community grow?

Dan Aluas: The local community needs to have space and support for development. Having in mind that each company is using the community’s expertise for their business, we all have to invest in this growth. When I mentioned space, I’m referring to the fact that as soon as our people are enrolled in a company they are focused more on the projects than on personal development.

We have to act in offering development opportunities. We, the IT companies have to be part and partners of the community.

DevExperience: Tell us a little more about Cegeka`s profile and activities and also what are the values that you are following there?

Dan Aluas: Cegeka is a family business company with Belgian roots. In Romania, we are offering nearshoring software development and infrastructure services.

Agility and quality are the values that we are following on our day to day business, close to other important values. Most importantly though, we consider people as being the most valuable asset of our business.

DevExperience: What do you do at Cegeka to keep the team happy and motivated?

Dan Aluas: At Cegeka, people come first. Another value of our company is Authenticity. So, we are offering a safe place where people can develop and enhance their true way of being. Being there, close to the people, listening to their needs and doing everything we can to have an open-minded space – all these transform Cegeka in a place where people truly enjoy working.

DevExperience: You work in Iași for almost 4 years now. How would you define the local IT industry and what differences did you find between Iași and Bucharest regarding the IT world?

Dan Aluas: We are in Iasi from 2016. We found a very strong community here, oriented to deepen the learning of what's new in IT. People from Iasi's community, we are very close to each other. We work together to continuously develop our abilities and learn more on a daily basis. Although we work for different companies, we are united, brought together by the vast knowledge and various project experiences.

DevExperience: In your opinion, what are the main 3 trends in IT for 2019 and how do you see the future of IT?

Dan Aluas: Artificial Intelligence will gain more and more supporters. Smart and greenhouses and specialized services will change the business. The order of them is not important, but the future will be more and more oriented to make life less stressed than now.

DevExperience: What is your advice for people who want to join the Cegeka team? What should they know and do to join the team and work with you?

Dan Aluas: People should know that we value people. In our company, their true personality can be expressed with no restrictions. We encourage our people to stay in continuous development and we are supporting them during this journey.

At Cegeka, you will find a perfect combination between ‘soft’ skills such as empathy & the ability to listen and ‘hard’ technical or business skills.

DevExperience: Working with the clients doesnt require only technical skills anymore. What do you do in order to help developers grow on social level?

Dan Aluas: We encourage people to be part of the community, to actively participate in the community's activities. Sharing their experience, learning from others, observing other people's skills will allow our people to adapt their behavior. From our point of view, involvement refines these skills.

DevExperience: Do you a think that a 10+ years experience developer can still grow? What is Cegeka doing for their experienced and technical people to help them grow continuously?

Dan Aluas: There are new things to learn every day. The technology is changing so fast, that, sometimes 10+ years of experience is only the starting point. If this experience is not developed and adapt on a daily basis, it can pull down the developer.

We are offering safe environments where the developers can experiment and learn about new trends and new technologies.  Usually, experienced developers have multiple responsibilities at work and outside the office. So, time is the most important thing for this countinuous learning, which we are happily offering to all of our colleagues.
